Pension permits only Rs 4,000 alimony, husband tells court

NEW DELHI: Former UP IGP D K Panda, who has taken to dressing as a woman and terms himself the "doosri Radha", today challenged an Allahabad High Court order directing him to pay a Rs 7,000 monthly maintenance to his estranged wife.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to his wife on his petition.

Panda said the figure fixed was unfair as his net salary after deductions was just Rs 15,211. Panda said the pension he will now draw would permit him to pay only Rs 4,000 as maintenance. The court proceedings began while Panda was still an IGP. A bench comprising Justices B N Agarwal and A K Mathur said Panda could not be given any immediate relief till they hear his wife and issued Veena a notice to appear before them.

Panda's advocate Ranjit Kumar said Veena did not have any financial problems since her sons were well settled in Mumbai. The younger son, who works at a top corporate office, looks after his mother.

Kumar said Panda himself was providing for Veena, who allegedly never liked his devotion to Krishna. Veena added that her estranged husband had already sold off his Allahabad house and was in the process of selling off a plot at Ghaziabad.
