PF defaulter arrested, sent to jail in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Maharashtra: A city hotel owner here was arrested and sent to jail for defaulting on the Provident Fund (PF) payment of his employees.

Salman Khan Ashfaq Khan was produced before Provident Fund Regional Office in-charge S V Tonk following his order yesterday and was sent to civil prison for his repeated failure of non-compliance of PF norms as well as his failure to respond to the notices issued by the authorities concerned.

Talking to UNI, Mr Tonk said that the hotelier had been issued several notices in the recent past for the default to the tune of Rs 2.38 lakh. However, neither he (the hotelier) accepted the notices nor appeared in before the PF authorities with his submission.

Finally, the PF authorities issued a warrant against Khan on December 20 following which he was arrested by the police.

The action was initiated against the hotlier under section 8B of the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act 1952.

He would be released from the jail only after he pays the PF dues, the PF officials said.

The hotelier has about 20 employees on his roll, while the dues were pending since 2001, the officials added.
