Electrical workers demand pension
KANCHEEPURAM: Electrical workers in Kancheepuram have demanded that the monthly pension of Rs 200 announced by the State Government should be given to all those registered at the Labour Welfare Board irrespective of the date of registration.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting of Kancheepuram Electrical Workers Welfare Association held here on Tuesday. The workers also appealed to the State Government to make available the benefits it had announced to all workers.
Complaining that a request for provision of marriage assistance, which is being granted by the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, usually takes several months for processing, they said that the State Government should initiate action to expedite the process of giving marriage assistance.
They also wanted the Rs 2000 given now as marriage assistance to be increased to Rs 10,000.
Though electrical workers were being registered under the Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board, they still did not have any representation in the board. They wanted the government to nominate at least one electrical worker as a board member.
Demanding that house pattas should be given to association members, they also sought concession in medical fees when undergoing treatment in government hospitals.
Another resolution demanded that the solatium of Rs 17,000 given for the families of electrical workers should be increased to Rs 25,000.
